Dwarf Fortress Adventure Mode Tutorial
Ramul Thran, The Planes of Dawn; Year 43, Month 3, Day 8
Molcet Paddlepoet started off in the fortress of Skinlizards, he stole some gear underneath their noses, and set off on his own, to conquer The Planes of Dawn. After several days of traveling, he discovered something he had only heard stories of, a wild creature, in particular a small one. He put his axe in his bag, and snuck next to the Cavy Boar, and suddenly grabbed its neck. He then stood there for 3 straight hours blocking every shot the boar had tried to take, finally the boar passed out. “Now, it is time.” said Molcet, he went prone next to the boar. He fiercely started grabbing and releasing various body parts of the boar, 10 grabs a second, 12 grabs a second, he was only getting faster and faster. He kept going so fast, so hard, that he went unconscious. He awoke to pain of being kicked in the face by the boar that his unconscious body was still holding. He stood, and waited until the boar passed out again. He repeated this until he could feel the power surging in him. He was an expert at wrestling, nay, he was…a Professional Wrestler. He became a master at using his shield to deflect blows, and finally, he grabbed the boar that he had now became friends with one last time…and he ripped its leg off, and proceeded to beat it to death with its own leg, the moral of this story is don’t trust a dwarf. Molcet felt the need to test himself and his new skill, so he decided he would head to the next town for some information. As he entered this town, named Questanguish, he found his way to the well, stole the waterskin from the man standing near him, and filled it up. He then greeted this man, and asked his name. “My name is Alu Martyrednest,” said Alu Martyrednest. Molcet then asked if there was any troubles in town. Alu tells of the Roc that lies to the south, but warns Molcet that he should stay until dawn so that the bogeyman do not seek him out at night. Molcet agrees, and heads into the mans house, immediately taking Alu’s spare waterskin in the chest next to his bed. Molcet can not stay away, and proceeds to pass out with his hand still on Alu’s gold coin pouch. Molcet wakes up ten hours later, and proceeds to eat the boar’s vomit from yesterday. He vomits this back up and eats some rainbow trout that he had with him and drinks some more water. Molcet notices that Alu was awake, and staring at him. This was not normal, any normal human, dwarf, or elf, would be fast asleep right now. Instead of accusing Alu of being a night creature, Molcet walks over, grabs him by the neck and whispers, “Die.” He slams the man to the ground, not removing his hand from his throat, takes his axe out, and swings at the night creature’s left arm. The axe pierces deep, and becomes lodged in the wound. Molcet orders Alu to drop his two knives in his pockets, but he only reveals one. Molcet knows this creature has another one, but proceeds to let go of him and step back. Alu lunges at Molcet with his spare knife, but Molcet masterfully parries it with his battle axe, and retrieves his buckler quickly, blocking the next strike. Deciding to put his training to use, Molcet works his way past the night creature’s offense and wraps his right leg around his left arm, and bends it in such a way that it breaks the fool’s elbow. Alu collapses from pain immediately. Alu twists the axe from the man’s neck, and swings at the still open wound, hacking his head clean off, sending it flying in an arc directly out the door. Molcet decides to do this town a favour and rid it of the rest of the night creatures. He swiftly dispatches of two more that are in hiding in their houses. But he doesn’t let them off with only a missing head…He slowly cuts off each and every limb one by one, before leaving them there to bleed to death. Molcet takes off before the villagers awaken, and starts heading south, it takes him a day to reach the mountain where the Roc’s lair is. He sneaks quickly and quietly past all enemies that await him, and eventually finds his way to the dastardly Roc. As he enters the lair, the Roc ambushes him, but Molcet quickly blocks its strikes and swings at the beast’s neck, but he misses. The Roc strikes again, this time it targets the left leg…and this time Molcet couldn’t block. Molcet’s leg flies off behind the Roc, and Molcet begins to panic. He attempts to stand, but falls over again quickly, he crawls away from the creature, blocking all of it’s strikes, but Molcet is losing blood quickly. Molcet has to fight back, he swings and hacks but the Roc is too fast! It dodges every attempt at a solid blow no matter how fast Molcet is. Molcet puts his battle axe back into his pack, and instead takes out a plumwood crutch that he stole from one of the night creature’s homes. He stands, and tries to run away, but the Roc leaps at him and knocks him over, sending him tumbling. In a panic Molcet begins to swing the crutch wildly at the Roc, missing it every time. The Roc proceeds to play with its pray by slapping Molcet with its wings. Molcet takes this chance to stand, put he attempts to pull out the battle axe, and immediately falls back and hits his head on the ground, causing a quick concussion. The Roc takes this chance to deal the final blow. It bites Molcet’s head off in one swift motion, leaving the brave adventurer’s corpse there to feed on later. Molcet thinks to himself while in his own version of paradise, surrounded by mead, “At least I’m not that guy from Blushveiled that got killed by a pet chicken.”
